CASH CAST / THE UNFINISHED BEGINNING

See tomorrow.
Change today.

The first serious GAMA software project began with a human question.
“Will my money last?”

Watch a future unfold

THE FOX. THE BEAST. THE FUTURE.

01 / The question

When will my money run out?

A positive balance is a moment in time. Rent, bills and a salary that arrives later tell a different story. CASH CAST began with the wish to see that story early enough to change it.

$2,000 today.
−$350 before payday.

The bank balance tells you where you are. Upcoming commitments can reveal where you are heading.

What if you saw it coming?

The starting example below is fictional. Every figure follows its event schedule.

Events & assumptions behind this answer

Illustrative estimates, not advice or a prediction of actual cash availability. This browser model is independent of the paused native engine. All amounts are AUD; dates are fictional. Living allowances stand in for everyday spending. No overdraft, interest, tax or inflation is calculated. Income before expenses; stable event ID breaks ties. Settlement timing may differ. A 35-day horizon cannot establish longer-term affordability.

02 / The rebellion

Your money is not your homework.

“I refuse to track every coffee.” The ambition was foresight without compulsory budgets, transaction chores or financial judgment. A navigator recalculates when life changes.

“I refuse to track
every coffee.”
The founding philosophy
The original Cash Cast fox, magenta above and cyan below

The fox fights the complexity.
Not the user.

01

No financial homework

Meaningful income, obligations and a living allowance. The ambition: understand tomorrow without logging every coffee.

02

Forecasts, not compulsory budgets

Show what may happen on the current path. Leave the person free to choose a different one.

03

No guilt

No spending grades, broken streaks or moral judgments. When circumstances change, the forecast changes.

04

Hide the machinery

A clear answer first. Charts, schedules and technical detail only when they help someone understand.

05

Your decisions remain yours

Inform. Explain. Explore alternatives. Never make the choice on someone else’s behalf.

YOUR MONEY.
YOUR DECISIONS.
YOUR FUTURE.

A product philosophy, supported by the native help text. It does not claim that every unfinished interface achieved the ideal.

03 / Borrowing from tomorrow

Two futures. One decision that stays yours.

Waiting uses cash you have built up. Bringing a purchase forward introduces a repayment commitment. CASH CAST explored the timing between them; neither path is automatically better.

Two equally considered luminous routes lead toward the same horizon, one with a future repayment checkpoint.
Different routes. The same right to choose.Conceptual artwork · imagegen

Could tomorrow help you
reach a goal today?

That question expanded the ambition: available credit, scheduled income, existing obligations, statement timing and full repayment would all have to agree.

Earlier is a trade-off to understand. A repayment date does not disappear because the purchase happens sooner.

TWO PATHS / ONE MOCK GOALScenario planning · not financial advice

A separate example begins with rent already agreed for 19 May. That resolves the earlier shortfall. Now ask what bringing a purchase forward would change.

PATH A / WAIT

Let cash catch up.

1 June

Earliest cash purchase retaining a $300 buffer through the remaining forecast, under the original assumptions.

Credit commitment
None for this goal
Lowest projected cash / whole horizon
$850
$300 buffer after the planned purchase
Retained in this model
PATH B / ACCELERATE

Bring the purchase forward.

6 May

A qualifying purchase creates a full $2,010 repayment, including the $10 example fee, on 6 June.

Full repayment funded at its deadline
Yes, under these assumptions
Lowest projected cash / whole horizon
$850
$300 buffer through the journey
Retained in this model
Stated interest-free conditions
Met in this hypothetical model

Earlier access adds a dated obligation. If conditions fail, interest or fees may apply. Their amounts cannot be inferred from these fictional terms.

The exact hypothetical card conditions

Qualifying retail purchase on 6 May; statement closes 25 May; full goal purchase plus a $10 fee due 6 June. Available credit is $2,500 after existing balances. The prior statement on this same card is the $770 obligation on 15 May; the $350 later obligation is another card. Both remain in cash-flow calculations. No cash advance, balance transfer, promotional plan or universal interest-free period is assumed.

These switches change eligibility; the forecast also checks the linked prior statement and the new full repayment. Actual fees, dates, eligibility and repayment rules depend on the provider. A modelled payment with insufficient cash is an unfunded obligation, not a successfully executed payment.

Neither path is a recommendation. Estimates depend on the stated events, conditions and finite horizon. The fox reveals the trade-offs. You decide what matters.

04 / The beast

Every simple answer hides a thousand calculations.

Income meets obligations. Card cycles meet goals. One change travels through the forecast. The challenge was making the machinery capable without making the person operate it.

A small neon fox surveys a vast conceptual forecasting engine of timing rings and connected light paths.
The beast / A thousand relationships behind an answerConceptual artwork · imagegen

A question became a model.
The model became a beast.

The inspected ChronoFlow source connects recurring entries, cash truth, protected money, goals and credit experiments. The machinery kept growing.

But more source code is not the same as a validated financial model. Some calculations and interactions remained experimental. That gap belongs in the story.

A LANGUAGE FOR TOMORROW / CONCEPTUAL ICONS

Future income

Expected inflows, on a date.

Commitments

Money already promised.

A cash buffer

Room for a changed plan.

Payment deadlines

Timing that cannot be ignored.

A goal

A choice with a cash effect.

Two futures

The same start. Different events.

Recalculation

New assumptions. A new forecast.

Uncertainty

An estimate, never a guarantee.

INSPECT THE MACHINERY / SOURCE & VISION

IMPLEMENTED IN SOURCE

Cash truth

Cash accounts, a cash-truth snapshot and protected cash distinguish what is available from what is committed. Native weekly projections use Decimal money values.

A conceptual dependency map, grounded in inspected source. It is not a live trace or a claim that the native financial engine is validated.

IMPLEMENTED

Behaviour authored in the native source. Not a claim of production readiness or financial certification.

EXPERIMENTAL

Designs and calculations explored during development, with unfinished paths and known limitations.

VISIONARY

Future interfaces and possibilities. Clearly presented as concepts, with no relaunch promise.

05 / The controller

Power underneath. Simplicity on the surface.

The creator’s metaphor: “A nuclear power plant operated with a PS5 controller.” A familiar handful of controls for an enormous engine. An analogy for approachability, with no affiliation to Sony or PlayStation.

NEXT-GENERATION INTERFACE / BROWSER CONCEPT

The answer.
Then the choice.

An enormous engine can live behind one question. Show the approaching event. Explain the assumption. Let the person explore a different date.

COMPLEXITY IS OUR PROBLEM.

06 / The unfinished beginning

Paused. Not forgotten.

CASH CAST was the creator’s first serious GAMA Dynamics software project. Its ambitions grew through approximately twelve major iterations, in the creator’s account. Eventually, the complexity exceeded what he could confidently maintain and simplify at that point.

THE PROJECT THAT STARTED EVERYTHING

The ambition outran the ability
to keep the whole system clear.

Development paused. The lesson travelled onward: into other applications, stronger engineering practices and a better understanding of what it means to make complexity useful.

Modern development tools offer new ways to revisit difficult work. They do not establish a return date. CASH CAST remains paused research and development.
